TalysMana

The Contest

Becky and I are setting up a contest.  The winner will:

  • Be a character in the novel TalysMana.
  • Have a TalysMana artifact created around his or her character.
  • And receive a numbered, limited-edition copy of that artifact signed by both of us.

Tuesday, February 16th, we’ll be sending out the rules to all TalysMana list members.

This is not going to be a name-in-the-hat drawing.  Because TalysMana is a book about the power and value of creativity, you’re going to have to be creative to win.

And because part of the prize is being in the book, you have to be someone who’s actually reading the book.

Sign up below. (NOTE: If you’re already receiving TalysMana chapters, you’re already on the list.)

Probably not my cup of 180 Proof alcohol. But, I’ll drink to that…..and I don’t even drink.
Good Luck with your book.
Best Wishes,
Tom B.

Dear Holly,
Thank you for sharing this wonderful creative process with me. I am snowed in right now, in Pennsylvania, and it’s great to have a grand adventure to jump into. I’d make a great character – I’m so crazy.
Thanks for sharing,
BeccaH

Sounds like a brilliant idea, Can’t wait to hear the details about how to enter this.
*Idea’s start forming in her mad little mind* … hmmm …. yes, can’t wait ….

This sounds like it’s going to be a riot. People say I am a character, let’s see if professionals agree!

Okay, so this might be a very stupid and obvious question, but what is this contest, exactly?

Reply

Holly February 9, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Entry details will go out via e-mail to all the folks on the list. They won’t be posted here.

But…remember high school talent contests? Now add in a theme of creativity, passion, courage in the face of obstacles, and bringing hope and joy and knowledge to others.

Think about that a bit.

Thanks so much for this chance, Holly, and for sharing your first draft with us! This is one of the most interesting contests I’ve ever stumbled across and it seems like a lot of fun. Thanks again for this wonderful opportunity and best of luck!

Hey Holly!

I’d love to enter the contest but have acquired a small problem. Ever since I signed up to read the novel I put the emails in my draft box because I was busy writing my own novel. Between school and writing, I didn’t really get a chance to read it. Now, however, the emails are gone. I really don’t know up to what chapter disappeared, but I can’t sign up again.

How can I get these chapters again?

Also wanted to say thank you very much. Ever since I started to follow some of your courses, like the plot and character clinic ones, my writing has gone so much easier. Thanks a bunch for that!

Hi, Juleen,

If you’re on Twitter, send Becky your e-mail address and she’ll send you copies.

Or she can post here and suggest another method.

Yeah, either go to Twitter and message me with your email address or you can email me at becky@talysmana.com.

Just to clarify you need ALL the chapters, right?

I like the idea of creating/drawing stuff from stories. It makes them more real et familiar. I often do that with my own, with more or less success.

I’ve subscribed so that I could read the draft of the story, but i haven’t received any chapters. Is this because they have yet to be written, or is there a glitch? Thanks!

Holly February 11, 2010 at 9:50 am

There are thirteen chapters already written.

When you subscribed, did you open the e-mail that you received first, scroll down about halfway, and click the verification link? If you didn’t, then that’s the hang-up.

If you didn’t even receive the e-mail with the verification link, you might have input the wrong e-mail address. It happens. There are several people stuck in list limbo because they haven’t yet clicked that link, or perhaps mistyped their e-mail addresses. Becky and I have no way of knowing which, and can’t correct the errors.

If you read my mother’s comment above and you think you still need the chapters please either go to my Twitter account (rebeccagalardo) and message me your email address or email me at becky@talysmana.com.

When did you sign up?

Are there really 13 chapters? I’ve only just recently received chapters 6 and 7. Why is that?

OMG, we’re already on the list? Better pull out my pen and pad, laptop, scratching board, teddy bear, and anything else that might help me out here.

*too excited to do that happy dance*

If I’m thinking like a writer, which would be a pleasure if you ask me, then I would suspect that the work we’re requiring to do – that will be a part of the book itself – is to…,.

Oh, maybe I shouldn’t say anything. But, I bet I’m right, and if I’m thinking like a writer, which my feeling about this were already expressed above; then I know, that you know, that I’m standing on the point, Right?

Alighty then, off to dream what dreams may come, and see what I can scrap out of them. ^^

Hi, I’d like to try this contest. Sounds intriguing.

Well, I guess this is as good a place to put this as any… I’ve been reading the story and it gives me more than average chills up my spine, because I know Nate. Rephrase: I married a guy, named Nate, who has very Hawksby-like tendancies. Not all of them… but sometimes it’s hard to pull my muse out of the story.

Also, I like the crazy colored snowflakes that pop up when we post. That just makes me grin.

Dear Holly and Rebecca,
I guess this is where I am to post my entry? My content is exactly 1,000 words as asked, and I believe I formatted everything properly. I am older than 18 so no problems there. If I did anything wrong let me know so I can try to re-enter the contest. It was a lot of fun to work on, and I hope you can enjoy the ideas as much as I did.
God bless,
Michael S.
P.S. I’m trying to enter way before the deadline so that we can work out any problems if there are any.
