So I’m working on extra Fendle Warrior Hearts, getting them done so that I can ship them to my mother for a signature, then have her ship them back so when they’re ordered they’re on a next day trip towards the rightful owners. However, what I wanted to say is that each piece you are getting isn’t only unique because of the beads attached.
If you click on that link it shows you the first Fendle Warrior Heart made, it shows you the model. I keep all the models. That one is now, honestly, my least favorite asthetically. Making each piece is intoxicating. I’m lucky that I’m not working on some assembly line, or the owner of one just pumping out designs for people to make and ship.
“And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.”
Not here. Yes, it’s slower. Yes, designs come out slower because I am still working on other things, other shops, other shipments, customer service. It’s slower because it’s ALL done by ME (and that is REALLY hard, by the way. It’s hard because I can’t read the books I want to read, or veg because there really isn’t an ‘after work time’ right now. It’s all the time and I can’t just stop everything because Ghost Hunters is on or The Royal Tennebaums is on with no advertisements, lol).
Now, I am not perfect and I refer you back to my guarantee: If it Fails Because of Me, I Will Fix it for FREE (just minus the shipping TO me). But I can tell you that I have fallen in love with each piece. Literally every piece that I have made so far, every single one of them I love. I imagine the stories behind them. Some have scars! Some have dents and chips and chunks missing. Some have odd coloring; maybe this is moss, maybe that was blood. Every single piece is something that I am devastatingly proud of and each one is completely unique.
And I just wanted to share that with you. I wanted to let you know that when you get your Fendle Warrior Heart you are getting a piece of me. You’re getting some of my soul’s input and my magic and my hard work.
Now, before I sign off here for the night I have had some requests for more “normal” TalysMana related jewelry; not so artifact-y. I’ve got you covered. I am working on several things right now. The most common requests have been earrings and (weird) cell phone charms. I can’t believe it but I’ve had three separate requests for those.
I want your input too. You can leave it as a comment here or email me at becky@talysmana.com.
Keep things shiny and have a great rest of the week!
I received Becky’s first batch of Fendle Warrior Hearts in the mail Saturday, and got them signed today (yesterday was Search For The 0.5 Waterproof Brown Pen Day. )
For those of you who are getting the signed, numbered limited editions, Number 1-6 will be in the mail later today.
If you missed the email that went out let me fill you in. The LIMITED EDITION Fendle Warrior Heart is in its final stages. In fact (and I didn’t mention this in the email) I should have a finished model today, so my mother should get some pictures.
It’s much smaller than originally imagined, oval and less intricately carved. I remember updating you all when I changed the look of the piece but there have been so many issues and versions… Argh, this one has been insanity.
The PRE-release date (some TalysMana folks get a chance to buy the piece before everyone else and secure themselves lower numbers) is Tuesday June 29th. The Official release date is Thursday July 1st.
As far as getting on the pre-release email list: it’s easy. You just have to have purchased an item from the TalysMana Shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/talysmana). If you have you will be eligible to buy the Fendle Warrior Heart before others and secure a lower number.
An email will go out on Tuesday to the people who’ve purchased something from my shop.
I remember who has discounts (including that big half off discount ;D) and will be emailing those people on how to get that for whenever they want to use it.
The TalynMana project hit a snag a couple weeks ago, when Becky’s day job got slammed with, well, the economy. Not just her job, you see, but the company she worked for, too.
So she’s in the middle of changing everything, and the jewelry part of the TalysMana project is on hiatus until she gets through this particular disaster.
And the contest is on hold until Becky can participate in judging the entries along with me. We’re looking at–realistically–a couple of months for this to happen.
On my end, there’s still a bunch of craziness going on, but it’s winding down. So I should be able to get back to writing TalysMana in another week or two.
Winner of the Feedback Bribe Drawing
The drawing was done yesterday morning from a hat. The paper was chosen by my very impartial day-job boss. If you purchased two items and left two feedback entries you got two chances at the ’50% off any item in the TalysMana Shop‘ bribe. The winner (for those who didn’t get my late Twitter announcement) is: etsyname: codemeister!!! Congratulations!! Thank you all for your feedback. However I still have a HUGE number of missing entries so perhaps another bribe is necessary… Hmmmm…
Fendle Warrior Heart – Release Information
The Fendle Warrior Heart is almost done. I thought about posting pictures but it’s too close to me right now. I am in the stage where there is so much magic and it feels so fragile. I can’t risk sharing what I have now and breaking the flow. I will say that there is more than one mold from more than one model and that it will be available for purchase next week (though I still have to work out a schedule when my mother and I can get together to sign the pieces).
Remember: if you have purchased ANYTHING from the TalysMana Shop, you will get a chance to purchase the FWH before anyone else. Also, if you’re someone who has purchased one of the first 20 Mini-Viewers (still a good number left of that initial 20) the you get $10.00 off the FWH.
Junk Mail If anyone has emailed me personally and has not received an email back please respond here. My junk mail was filled with all sorts of stuff at the beginning of last week and I am just now getting to emails from then. Even people I have had previous correspondence have ended up in there!

The Upcoming Fendle Warrior Heart
The Fendle Warrior Heart is my current obsession. Every night when I get home from work I have my dinner and get to work. I’ve gone through a couple versions and have found that keeping the piece visually balanced has been the most difficult part. Well, other than that darn wing!
What you see in the first picture is the “stone” (which is made from resin and coloring). The second picture shows the rest of the model, made from polymer clay. The “stone” and the “claw” (not yet pictured) will be set in the “wood” (also made with resin) while the wing will be “carved”.
Once I have this design to where I really like it I’ll bake the piece without the stone and the claw to harden it for the mold process, which is really fun. Again, feel free to let me know what you think!
A Note to those who Have Purchased
I have a favor to ask anyone that has purchased a viewer, Limited or Unlimited. If you are able to and wouldn’t mind leaving me feedback on Etsy.com for the purchase I would greatly appreciate it! It helps me to establish myself not just on Etsy but with other TalysMana readers. Everyone wants to know they can trust the person they are giving their hard-earned money to. If you could help be gain this trust, it would be wonderful.
However I will bribe you Anyone that has left me feedback by Monday the 15th of February on Etsy.com will be entered into a drawing. The winner will be announced Tuesday the 16th (early morning on Twitter, at night on this blog) and will get 50% off of one item in the TalysMana shop. No expiration, no limitations.
I have had several concepts in the last few weeks and none of them worked for me. I have several goals with this piece and fully intend to meet each one. Every concept – until today – failed to reach at least one if not more of them. When I spend time designing unique jewelry I make sure I have a small, focused list of visual keys, an idea of a basic size and the emotion behind the piece.
Today I finally I came up with the first valid concept in keeping with the characters. Not just my mother’s desire for the piece but her original ideas in what the Fendles wear and what their world is like.
Just note two things:
1. This is a CONCEPT, not the finished idea. Things change sooo much during the actual creation process.
2. This is a hurried sketch. Even so I am not da Vinci and my finished sketch (which will be posted) will probably do no real justice to the piece. I find my physical work is much better when in 3-D. I have issues with proportion and pens
I’d love to hear your comments. Keep things shiny!
I just wanted to thank everyone that purchased the Limited Edition (Signed and Numbered) TalysMana Viewer ! I was also really delighted with your emails, giving wonderful feedback regarding the piece. If you purchased a Viewer, have a moment and would like to help out please click on the link above and leave me feedback on my Etsy page. If you have any customer pictures (you or a friend wearing the viewer) they would be highly appreciated as well. As always any and all questions can be forwarded directly to me at becky@talysmana.com.
There are only 29 of these Limited Editions left, signed by both Holly and myself, so if you want a lower number you want to hurry.
The unlimited version of the TalysMana Viewer is on its way. You should receive another email shortly with the URL to pre-order this new, smaller Viewer. This is a PRE-ORDER as the Viewers are not currently ready for shipment. The next email will have the information on shipping.
Even though this piece is not “limited” it is still handmade. That means I spend time hand carving the models, sanding, painting and working with each and every individual pendant. Colors, sizes, shapes, even the designs will vary so each piece is as unique as a fingerprint.
Lastly, I am currently working on ‘The Fendle Warrior’s Heart’. If you haven’t received Holly’s latest chapter (#10) let me know and I’ll email it to you.
The first piece of Official TalysMana Jewelry is now available – The Taylsmana Viewer. This is the original piece that Kettan receives in the mysterious package at the very beginning of the novel. This is what sets Kettan’s story in motion.
I had 30 that I could get shipped and in the mail for Christmas. The first one has sold, leaving 29 left. I will keep a running tally on the Etsy page for those interested in purchase. Since this is an open – or in other words ‘unlimited’ – piece it will be available again after the holidays.
Once I am out of the 30 ready-to-ship I will create a place to pre-order pieces. When purchasing a pre-order please remember it will take about 5 days to create and ship your TalysMana Viewer.
Holly Lisle is e-mailing the first draft of her new novel TalysMana to readers. For free. One scene at a time, as she writes it.
And she's collaborating with her daughter Rebecca Galardo, who's creating both limited-edition and open TalysMana jewelry and artifacts that exist in the story.
