in 1: The Story,Write A Book With Me

Tonight, Emerald, Will, and Kettan prepared for their trip back to Story to find Blade. I got 531 words in twenty minutes—two runs of the timer.

Read through sections of the previous chapter to get into the story—and as usual, cringed. First draft can be wonderful…or it can be the first way you miss telling the story you intended to tell. And while I had some good bits in “The Face In The Moon Is Not Mine,” it was definitely a case of having missed my mark by a long shot.

This is what first draft is, though. A trial run—nothing like what the finished story will become. After so many books, you’d think I’d be comfortable with that.

I never am.

How are your words coming?

900 words.

The Big Bad’s Ghost just showed up to say hi.
He didn’t seem too upset about the whole Devan killing him thing.
She, however, is very upset about the him lingering around thing.

Holly, I am really liking this new character and what he can bring to the story table. I’d like to meet him, but, hmmmm, maybe not. As a reader, I love the ambiguity I already feel about him. Like him? don’t like him? trust him? don’t trust him? I don’t know yet!! I like that.

I worked late last night, so my words this mroning were spent cursing the alarm and hitting the snooze button. But, I am still feeling good about what I have written. I need to do some paper shuffling and organizing. Feels like a good place to be in the process.

Well, let’s see. No words. But a bunch of other stuff done. I paid off the library and have taken up reading again, and rediscovering the place. I don’t like what they’ve done to it. Also, a friend of mine has me listening to some books on tape (supposedly as common ground for an upcoming conversation) and it’s driving me absolutely mad. I can’t think–especially when the subject matter is “for” lots of things I can’t possibly endorse. If it weren’t on tape I’d have dented the wall with it long ago.

Meanwhile, no words, and I’m just now starting the Week Of Empty Time when I’m supposed to have lots of free hours to write in. I’m going to try to marathon-finish and see what I can get for the week (knock on wood)…
