Each entry will open in the SAME window—this is so you can open one window, then click your way through the entries to evaluate each one without having a lot of windows open on your desktop. You can only vote once, and voting closes on July 26th. But you can certainly encourage friends to drop by and vote for your favorite. And you can leave comments on the blog explaining WHY you want to see the character you chose. When you’ve voted, hit your BACK button to come back here and add your comments. Thank you for helping Becky and me pick our character! Holly Lisle |
One entrant pulled her entry before voting ended, removing herself from the contest. If you voted for Sallie, have a friend with a different computer vote for you on your second choice for TalysMana Character. |
P.S. Picking out five from the amazing assortment of entries was nearly impossible. I know Becky spent ages getting her five. I went through the entries a dozen times before I had mine.
Thank you again, each entrant, for putting your time, effort, thought, and passion into your portrait of yourself. Only one person can win. But each of you is amazing. And it has been a pleasure getting to know you.

Hm, which of my fellow artists should I kill off?
…Incidentally, I think I’m the kid in the cabinet meeting here…I keep thinking it’s a typo. You guys (and girls) have done some amazing stuff and I’m a little scared to be in the running with you. Good luck, congrats to whoever wins, and I’ll come cry at your funeral.
I have to comment -
You know how when you write, just to write, there is a voice in your head that comes out on paper. The turn of phrase, the half-sarcastic ironic phrasing that comes out as easily as breathing. – that you’re not sure anybody would particularly like reading.
Well, Liz’s entry spoke with the voice in my head. Reading it was a lot like talking to myself, except being told things I didn’t know yet.
So yep. She’s cool.
Hey Jonathan! Welcome aboard.
And thanks.
Thanks much.
And no problem.
Gosh, I’m honoured just to be in the top ten. This is exciting. I didn’t think I stood a chance against all those brilliant entries. Maybe I still don’t, but it’s fun to be in the running! Good luck, folks.
If just about anyone can drop by and vote, doesn’t that really make this a contest of “who has the most friends on their facebook profile”, or twitter, or what have you?
Considering that if you set your FB status to “come vote for me!”, most of your friends will probably do so, without even reading/watching any of the entries, it just seems a bit contrary to the spirit of the competition. Just my thoughts.
I must admit, I’d thought that too… <.< and it's kind of what I'm doing.. though.. I don't have a particularly large circle of online friends so I'm not sure where that line of "not fair" is… but I'm sure some people have a bunch of friends that might make it more a popularity contest than anything.
Meanwhile, anyone in your household who has the same external IP address that you do can’t vote for you. Or for anyone else. Er, my hubby says it’s not the IP address, it’s a mac address. I don’t know the difference. It works out the same anyway.
So at the very least, balancing the facebook thing, is that those friends have to vote from different internet access points or something like that.
Doesn’t balance the facebook thing much….
Most people I know, at least, don’t share computers.
Hmm, good point. Didn’t think of that.
‘Course, most of my friends are they type who’d probably vote against me just to be smartasses =P
Congratulations to everyone who made it into the top ten! I haven’t looked at all the entries yet, but I can certainly understand why the ones I HAVE looked at made it. Good luck to everyone!
Wow, I am extremely honored to be in the top ten. I was thinking that these are all such amazing people who have suffered and triumphed through so much in their lives, my humble entry would have a hard time competing. Good luck to all of you. You are all amazing characters in the story of your lives.
*is excited nearly to bursting* I’m just so stoked to have gotten to the top ten! weeeee *does a cartwheel*
Ladies, gentlemen, I am honoured to stand with you.
*chuckles* Your video was classic btw, you’re an amazing digital artist. Do you have a dA account or just the youtube? If you have a dA account and wish to share I’d love to chuck you on my watch list. I need more people who make me laugh and smile in my circle of brainwashing. XD hehe
She’s right. It was pretty good.
Thank you, I don’t have a DA account though. I don’t even use youtube often – just to upload that video. It was a lot of fun making that. I wish I could have squeezed more of my artwork / SL stuff in, but the five minute cap meant less of that, more of me. lol.
Well, if I wasn’t in the running myself I would have voted for you hun, you gave me a damn good giggle. :3
That’s really sweet of you, thanks
That funny sound you just heard was my jaw hitting the floor. I’m flabbergasted. Given the quality of the artists who posted ahead and behind me, this is… really unlooked for. I look forward to finding out what the talysmana universe’s version of whoever wins gets to do.
It’s truly an honor to be on the list! Thank you!
Hmmm, didn’t find my name in that list. So I looked through the finalists to see who I would vote for. One blew me away. When I read it, I could see that character in TalysMana. Kettan *needs* this character. I won’t say who I voted for, because I don’t want to influence the voting. Everyone should make an independent decision. But CHEEZE ITZ! Now I can’t imagine the book without this character…
I’m so very happy, and excited, and honored to be one of the Ten! And now, to see who will become a Character.
I read through, or watched, all of them. My vote is for Sallie (aka dragon (little d). I’ll submit my vote in a minute. She’s an independent gal and I’d call her a quixotic spirit. Go Sallie!
Um, Sallie’s entry has disappeared… it comes up and says page not found at the blog host.
Apparently she has removed herself from the contest.
I can’t pull her from the voting, and I can’t attribute her votes to anyone’s second favorite.
If you voted for her, have a friend with a different computer vote your second choice for you.
Hi:
I didn’t pull my entry, the link went to the wrong blog spot which said pretty much nothing. I emailed the corrected link, but apparently that didn’t get through. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time.
Please delete the last post. My apologies for being terse. I did try to correct the issue, but was unsuccessful. Therefore, please delete me from the competition since my entry is inaccessible. Thank you.
Hey, I’m sure something can be done. There’s got to be a way to get you back in the game.
There’re all so intriguing…. I’m going to have to sleep on it. It’s really too bad you guys can’t all win.
If there is a way to do so, how do I get the correct link back to Holly and Rebecca? I should really know better than to take a vacation. My life immediately becomes less serene than usual …. And I really do apologize for coming across as annoying and terse … I taped a big note to my forehead that says carbs and protein before releasing fingers on keyboard … I am very very thankful for having been included in the list given the talent and creative presentations of the competition. And if it isn’t possible to get the link fixed, that’s OK too. Thanks for all the kind words and the encouragement.
I would like to tell everyone how well they did with their entries. I enjoyed viewing them all again, and I must admit that it was a very difficult choice. I made my choice for the entry that spoke to me the most as a person and a reader, especially keeping in mind that this is going to represent a character who I must like and likely mourn in the course of the novel. I cast my vote for Liz Danzier, though truly, there are so many talented people among you all, and I am sorry I could only pick one. Good luck to all the finalists!
Bit late on this, but thanks!
Well, it appears my life is only in mild peril. Rats.
I am honored to be in the finalist list. I am sorry to see others felt inclined to flood the votes with friends. It did not even occur to me. Guess I am out of touch in that way.
Does anyone know where the Write a Book With Me link is these days? I am getting re-organized and I have a coach of sorts to help me get organized and stay on track — not everyone needs this, but I do and I know I do. I have worked with her before, in fact, she helped me select the story to work on (among a long list of stories in my head) and flush out the original idea. I start with her in August but want to post on WABWM as I go.
Well, duh, it’s on this page on the left. I found it, no need to reply unless you want to laugh with me how easily we can miss something.
Aye, I think the “only people who’ve actually read the story can vote” approach makes a heck of a lot more sense.
Well, I’ll admit to putting a post up facebook after others started doing so, because I figured if other were doing it, that must be how we were doing it, and some of my best friends back home are huge Holly Lisle fans so I was excited to get their input. I guess I misinterpreted what Holly said in the original post about ‘encouraging your friends to vote’. None of that sounded like ‘only people on the mailing list can vote’ to me.
If it’s become a big problem I can pull my entry, I don’t want to be the cause of drama.
Honorable.
I only did what I thought we were supposed to be doing. It was my goof and it seems to be upsetting people. I’d rather not win at all than win unfairly.
Nah, I’m pretty sure everyone was doing it, by the end. I don’t think it was anyone’s fault. More just an oversight.
Besides, it’s all a moot point now that it’s being taken care of.
In a way, everyone benefited: the competition’s more fair now, and Holly got a whole bunch of free advertising =P
Well, I made my sister come to my house to watch your video, Wanders. She said it was excellent. And random bursts of “— —- insanity!” have popped up in conversation since then, so you get bonus points for being quotable.
I admit to not thinking of the facebook thing until it was posted here and then putting something on facebook, too. (I’m tempted to follow up with “but…” but I won’t.) I agree that the readers-only method is more fair, and I hope all the people who came and voted via facebook took the time to read and will be joining us on Holly’s writing adventure.
Meanwhile, my promise to cry at you guys’ funeral still holds. And if I win I really hope to see you all at mine. …er, wait…
